Dr Barbara Tooth
Get to know Barbara
Barbara loves being in and watching nature. She is enlivened by bushwalking, laps in a rock pool, snorkelling, remote camping, meditation, live theatre and has done hang gliding on occasion. Spending quality time with her friends and family members is important to her, as is spending time with her gorgeous cavoodle. She loves learning and takes every opportunity to gain new skills.
Barbara’s qualifications include a PhD in Clinical Psychology (University of Wollongong) and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology (University of Wollongong). Prior to undertaking psychology, she trained and practiced as a general and midwifery nurse.
Barbara has over 25 years’ experience as a clinical psychologist. She has worked in: mental health crisis teams, inpatient units, community psychology, corporate well-being programs, a university Senior Lecturer teaching mental health and as a researcher. Barbara’s research explored what people stated helped them recover from severe and prolonged mental health challenges. This research was conducted in Australia, USA and Italy. She has been an invited speaker on this topic both nationally and internationally. It was a privilege for Barbara to learn from the people in her research and she uses this knowledge in her therapeutic practice.
Barbara draws on a wide range of therapies when working with people to fit their individual needs. She has trained in: Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Neuro-psychotherapy, Narrative therapy, Personal Construct Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Gestalt, Psychodrama, Interpersonal Therapy and Mindfulness. Barbara’s thirst for knowledge ensures she keeps up-to-date with the latest practices and research.
Barbara is a fully registered Clinical Psychologist with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority).
Availability
Barbara is available Mondays and Tuesdays including Early Mornings and Online Sessions.
