What to expect
We will do more than just listen to your story. We work with you to understand your difficulties and give you practical strategies and skills to overcome them. We will often recommend exercises or provide reading material for you between sessions that will maximise your progress.
When you contact us
Our friendly receptionists will be able to answer most of your questions. Then, we will book you in for a free 10-minute matching call with our intake counsellor to find the therapist who is the best fit for you.
If you do not get through when you call first time, please leave a message. We return all missed calls within the hour.
Preparing for your first session
It is very normal to feel uncomfortable before your first session. Be assured that our team of experienced Psychologists are warm, non-judgemental and will do their best to help you feel at ease
For the most efficient and effective treatment, the first session generally involves a detailed assessment of your current life situation, your difficulties and any contributing factors and history. You can ask your psychologist any questions that you may have and, if time permits, we will discuss with you a plan for your therapy.
Length of therapy
Most people feel the benefits of treatment after a few sessions. However, the total number of sessions required depends on several factors. Psychological research indicates that clients typically require between 5 and 15 sessions. However, Equilibrium Psychology does provide longer-term psychotherapy if appropriate.
After assessment you will work with your psychologist to determine the best number and frequency of sessions to suit your goals, schedule and financial situation. Sessions generally begin on a once weekly basis and are spaced out more as you begin to feel better
