Dr Kirsten Abbott
Get to know Kirsten
Kirsten developed her passion for Psychology while completing her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at the University of Sydney. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Psychology with honours and a Masters in Clinical Psychology from the University of New South Wales. She has completed her doctoral thesis which examined the influence of high fat and high sugar foods on the neural mechanisms that support learning and memory.
In her down time, Kirsten engages in a range of hobbies including hiking, reading, jigsaw puzzles, and listening to true crime podcasts. She is a committed collector of indoor plants and can frequently be found scouring local garden centres for new additions to her growing plant family. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family, and regularly escapes to the country for some R&R at her parent’s farm.
Prior to joining Equilibrium, Kirsten has worked in a number of settings including a university clinic, a child and family community health clinic, and a hospital outpatient unit. She utilises a number of evidence-based modalities when working with clients including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She is also expanding her specialist training to include Schema Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy.
Kirsten is registered as a Psychologist with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)
Availability
Kirsten is available Mondays and Thursdays including Early Mornings and Online Sessions.
